I have now completed the World's Heaviest Poncho. I finished it at about 1 am on Sunday morning. I rushed in to show Ben. “What do you think?” I asked. “It's okay,” he said. He's not into ponchos so I will not make him one.
This poncho has been donated to FEVA to be auctioned off at their Supporters' Dinner in July. It was made with sixteen 100g balls of Lincraft Zoom yarn (100%) acrylic on 10 mm needles (100 stitches; unfortunately I made a little mistake on one of the sides so it has 101 but you can't tell) using this pattern:

I'm not too happy with the quality of the pictures but anyways, the poncho has been given over to them now ... It took me a month to make. The yarn alone cost me $100 so I hope it will go for at least that much.
This one was made with six balls of Panda zodiac yarn using this pattern on 5mm needles. I don't think it worked particularly well (there was something wrong with the pattern; increasing two stitches every 4 rows makes the poncho go down to my knees) and part of me is still thinking about pulling the whole thing out and making something else out of it:

Contrary to what I said previously, this hat was made with Katia Himayala Print yarn (50% wool, 50% acrylic) on 5 mm needles (88 stitches). I made up the hat pattern myself (trying to make it more cloche-shaped) but the flower is from Knitty. This one is also going to FEVA.

These are scarves for Operation Christmas Child, knitted on 5mm needles (200 stitches on the long side) from 8 ply 100% acrylic yarn.

The hat is cuteness!!!
Don’t think I’ll be able to make it to the writing thing, as it will be the first Saturday that Seumas and I get to have together for… uh, I dunno, three or so weeks. So I’d like to see him. But I’ll tell him about it and maybe we could come together.
Those stripey scarves are nice.
Has /Karen/ become a knitting blog?
Wow i love the hat!
Very cutesy =)
wish i could knit…
As you know, I am not an accomplished knitter, but you are a knitting machine!
And…
I certainly hope that isn’t you in the first picture.
i suddenly have an urge to learn how to knit.
(i imagine it is excellent procrastination… (not that i need to add any more procrastinatory methods to my repertoire))
Deb: I like to think that this blog reflects my wide variety of interests!
Ben A: What makes you think the first picture is of me???
I’m happy to teach knitting to anyone who wants to learn
.
The scarves are great! You should auction some of them off!
I keep seeing their imperfections. They were made out of very cheap 8 ply acrylic yarn. Not to say that all the crap stuff should go to Operation Christmas Child, just that I don’t think people would pay more than $5 for a scarf like that.
