Yay!! I survived the week! My goodness it was busy! Monday I was working and then we went to Burwood and saw Ocean's 13 and ate dinner with Matt and Cathy. Tuesday I worked at CASE from 8:30-2:30, then went to MM for an hour (still doing CASE work but Faithful Writer stuff, then came home and continued to do CASE stuff until 9 pm when I thought, “I really must stop this and go eat some dinner.” (Ben was at Bible study which wasn't really Bible study—they were playing ‘Logs and Specks’ [and I was a bit slow—I didn't understand that title until Thursday morning] and he was organising it. They played “Guess the baby” in between rounds and apparently everyone guessed me.) Wednesday was work again, then dinner with Gavin and Sarah. Thursday: work again (and I finished The Daily Reading Bible (Volume 12) but I think I already told you that), then dinner at Fish's with Judith and we watched the series finale of Heroes and then did dishes. Friday: work (and I finished editing the Christmas tract), then we drove to Dave and Kellie's for dinner (and Dave gave me a quick lesson on all the different types of coffees using his T-shirt as a teaching aid), then drove to Parramatta to watch Transformers on the G-Max screen (and I have to say I enjoyed it and thought the Transformers were rather cool. Sure, it's not great cinema but it was a fun movie for a Friday night when you're exhausted).
Today Elsie came over for breakfast, bearing bananas and apple mango juice. Arnjali and Mo were supposed to come too but didn't make it in the end. We made pancakes. My goodness, they were filling! I think I made too much batter—I used this recipe I got off the Roedigers ages ago: 2 cups self-raising flour, 1 tsp sugar, 1 egg, 250 ml milk and that makes eight pancakes. I tripled it for five people and had way too much batter left over!!! We were stuffed after just two pancakes each! And they were so thick, they were practically pancake cakes. But at least we got to break out the real Canadian maple syrup my mum brought back for me last time she was there. I almost felt like we'd had a proper Canada Day celebration.
In the afternoon my mum came and picked me up, and I drove us both to Paddington. We walked up and down Oxford St, looking at clothes and books and, most importantly, boots (she said she'd buy me boots for my birthday. Of course, being me, I was terribly picky about what sort of boots they were. They had to be knee-high, black leather, minimal heel, not pointy-toed, minimally ornamented and comfortable. That's not hard, is it? Wrong!!!) We finally found what I wanted in Palm Beach, a shoe store close to the top end of Oxford St which is packed to the rafters with shoes. The place is always in total chaos but I rather like it as the sales staff aren't intimidating and don't look you up and down and judge you by what you're wearing. (I could tell in one store they weren't too keen on me in my grey corduroy jeans, acrylic jumpers and duffle coat which I've owned since Year 12, the lining all frayed around the edges and falling apart.) Every time I go shoe shopping, I forget what I size I am. But it's been a while; the last time I bought shoes was 2004 and to me shoe size isn't really “essential” information!)
We had lunch at about 3:00 and it took ages because they had to wait until one of the ingredients in my salad was cooked. Then we went to Opus and bought cards (and I got a present for Elsie) and DVDs from Video Ezy (Northern Exposure Season 1 and 2 for only $10 each!) then drove to my mum's.
Tonight we're having a celebratory birthday dinner for my and Peter's birthdays. I didn't realise it's going to be so big—all these people I didn't expect are coming. Tomorrow I need to do laundry, make lots of phone calls and pack for Jamberoo. Ben is preaching on the subject of Doubt tomorrow night, and we're both on band again. (I'm not sure how many other churches feature preachers who also drum on the night they preach but Ben says he finds is relaxing.)

I often find playing bass during a service wherein I’m also preaching to be a helpful practice. Gives me something to do and focus on instead of thinking ahead to the preaching bit.
