Seems like it’s a paraphrase to me: check out this discussion board, referencing this chapter of a work called orthodoxy from chesterton; or possibly this quote "What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon." Tremendous Trifles (1909)
Sounds like something from “Orthodoxy”. There is a chapter called “The Ethics of Elfland”. I thought it was giants rather than dragons though…
