We get up for breakfast (well, Ben doesn't) and finish packing (well, I can't until Ben is out of the shower). Kathleen teaches me to crochet in an hour and gives me instructions on how to make a knitting needle organiser thing from the felt I bought. I go and hand back the keys and then say farewell to Kathleen who is going to catch the tram to the airport. Her plane doesn't leave until lunchtime and so far she hasn't posted anything yet but I assume she got there okay and met up with the rest of the bloggers in Sydney for a great blogger-fest (which I was rather sorry to miss but there you go).
Ben and I loaded up the car, successfully avoided the Citylink freeway and got out of Melbourne. We stopped in Yarragon again for lunch (salmon steaks!), Ben bought Augustine's City of God at a discount bookstore and then it was in the car again with The White Stripes, Creed, Vega 4 and goodness knows what else. We kept driving, taking turns as before, and the road unravelled before us, the car eating up the miles (and the petrol). At a couple of points I thought we would run out before we reached a gas station but we were very lucky and always made it in time. We crossed the border at about 6 and I took the last driving shift. I thought we would stop in Eden but Ben said we should go on to Merimbula which is where he went on holidays as a boy.
When it comes to look for caravan parks, my driver fatigue causes me to complain and I nearly don't stop for a passing car. We swap over and then drive around Merimbula looking for that elusive caravan park. We never find it (until the following morning when we have to leave) but we do find the Merimbula Beach Cabins. It's 7:30 but the lady is quite happy to charge us $92 to stay in a studio cabin overlooking the beach (which we can't see because it's night). So we lug our bags to the room and then go off to find some dinner. Ben is also keen on a movie.
We eat at a Thai noodle house which seems insanely busy and their door is faulty (it's glass and keeps hitting the other glass so they close it off and get us to leave by the other exit) and then we go off to the local cinema (which is only $10 for an adult ticket and has a decent list of films) to see Sin City (see comments for what I thought of it). I am surprised to discover later that Brittany Murphy playd Tai in Clueless and Clive Owen was in Gosford Park.
