End-of-year dinner

So why am I talking about wedding dresses? It's because last night we had the ECU/IBM end-of-year dinner and you had to come has a movie character or a movie star. I wanted to go as the Princess Bride again but as I couldn't fit into my wedding dress, I had to pick something else. I ended up wearing the bridesmaid's dress I had worn for my chief bridesmaid's wedding. I also borrowed my friend's moleskin cloak (I've always wanted one like it) and got Sarah to braid half of my hair into a crown. Because my hair is so long, she ended up coiling it around and around my head so that it looked like a braided cap. I got her to thread gold ribbons through it and I have to say it looked very cool. (Again, if I had a picture, I'd show you. Maybe later.)

When I arrived at the church, someone said, “Are you Arwen from The Lord of the Rings?” I liked the idea so much I decided to stick with it.

Some of the other costumes were great as well. There was one girl who came as Juliet from Romeo and Juliet. Little Gracie really looked the part as Snow White. Jono came as Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean (complete with this really cool sword made out of bits and pieces of household items). Ben decided to come as himself (given that he has appeared in a number of movies of his own making). But the best costumes were the girls from the Chook house who won first prize in the costume competition and who came as the Bennett sisters from Pride and Prejudice (Little came as Lydia. One of her flatmates looked so much like Jane it was unbelievable).

Various things happened throughout the night—

• movie trivia which we filled in by table teams;
• my slideshow of 2004 events which was screened over dinner (it had over 200 slies and was 100MB in size);
• Ben's movie of Week 13 (not completely finished but still quite amusing, particularly Richard the RnB rapper);
• a talk by Jono on Philippians 2 (“shine like stars”);
• a song by the DipEd girls to say goodbye to ECU (they changed the lyrics to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen);
• Matthew Meek's Michael Jackson impression to “Billie Jean” (which I captured on film);
• farewelling graduating students (*sob!*);
• us exiting staff singing “So long! Farewell!” from The Sound of Music;
• farewelling us exiting staff. Sarah had made us all felt hats with appropriate little things sewn all over them (Ben had a yellow bucket on his).

Plus I got lots of cool photos and was able to catch up with a bunch of people that I hadn't seen in a while. Wow, I'm really going to miss everyone ...
