I'm trying to make a playlist and eventually a CD for the car. It will contain songs which are not so much happy as ecstatic—exalted—glorious—sublime. It's for when I need to be uplifted. So far, it looks something like this (NB: I'll fiddle with the order later):
| Song | Artist | Album |
| Dancing | Elisa | Caterpillar |
| All My Stars Aligned | St Vincent | Marry Me |
| Homeward | The Sundays | Static & Silence |
| Can't Take It In | Imogen Heap | The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe |
| Landmines | St Vincent | Marry Me |
| Teenage Wristband | The Twilight Singers | Blackberry Belle |
| Spice Islands | Goldenhorse | Riverhead |
| Cataracts | Andrew Bird | Armchair Apocrypha |
| Subterranean Homesick Alien | Radiohead | Ok Computer |
| Time | Sarah McLachlan | Afterglow |
| Sleeps with Butterflies | Tori Amos | The Beekeeper |
| Bluebird | Katie Noonan | Skin |
| Nude | Radiohead | In Rainbows |
| Your Ex-Lover Is Dead | Stars | Set Yourself on Fire |
| Send Out a Little Love | Katie Noonan | Skin |
| Like a Star | Corinne Bailey Rae | Corinne Bailey Rae |
| How My Heart Behaves | Feist | The Reminder |
| Liz on Top of the World | Dario Marianelli | Pride & Prejudice |
Some of them I'm still not sure about and might cut later. But does anyone have any recommendations?

Interesting list!
If it was my list I might add:
Teardrop - Massive Attack
Heal Over - KT Tunstall
Like someone in love - Bjork
The Transfiguration - Sufjan Stevens
Black Swan - Tori Amos
I love NYE - Badly Drawn Boy
and maybe La valse d’Amelie - Yann Tiersen because it makes me feel like running. Though it’s a bit sad.
I would have to include some Finn classics such as Distant Sun or It’s Only Natural or Weather With You - beautiful harmonies.
Writing to Reach You by Travis. Gives me goosebumps. But not sure I’d describe it as sublime.
Sublime is hard!! I look forward to listening to your playlist. I think I only know one or two songs.
I’ll have to check out all those ones, thanks Elsie and Bec!
I’m not sure I find songs by the Finn brothers sublime. I think some of them are too depressing so I tend to stay away from them, even though some of them are very beautiful. But I’m trying to go for sublime more than depressing ...
Never heard of some of those artist I have to confess, but I am surprised you find Time by SM uplifting ...
I confess it’s more the music than the words—it makes you want to dance
Interesting!
I started a list, but I found it difficult. I think because what uplifts me is the simple and fun, the playful and energetic (the perfect pop song!); or the faux-grandiosity of a rock anthem; not the glorious, exalted and sublime and beautiful.
Unless its Christian music; and grand old hymns.
Perhaps two things you could try:
Mercury Rev: The Tide is Rising
The Flaming Lips: Do You Realize??
me, i ALWAYS like CS Lewis Song by Brooke Fraser. Starts mellow, lifts. lots of piano, good words.
