Leaves and waves shawl

Thursday, 04 December, 2008

Even more knitting goodness. (I hope Lisa isn't reading this blog. Lisa, if you are, stop now.)

As I said, there's only so many times you can knit Véronik Avery's lace ribbon pattern without getting bored, so I started branching out into other lace patterns. I've admired Kat Coyle's Leaves and Waves shawl for a long time but have never bothered to buy enough mohair to actually knit it. I decided to adapt the leaf pattern (which is from Susanna Lewis's Knitting Lace apparently) for a shawl. So I made a border of three knitted stitches, then a four-stitch column of yarnovers, then the leaf pattern, another four-stitch column of yarnovers, the leaf pattern again, another four-stitch column of yarnovers, and then three knitted stitches. (This probably makes more sense when you see it.)

I used the rest of the Anny Blatt green mohair I had used to make George's shawl:

Here it is being blocked:

Again, it was one of those ones where you can't really see what you're knitting until it's stretched out like this.

And here's me in a white dress modelling it (pardon the tag daggines):
