Mental health day

Sunday, 04 November, 2007

Today was a day to blob around the house and do nothing. I slept for 11 hours last night. I think I really needed it, and I suspect I was fending off a cold for most of today because I kept going through the tissues. I'm finally on top of my blog reading (mostly because I decided to not read closely or not read some posts at all), I've completed all my moves on Scrabulous, I've done the accounts for the past month or so and my desk is looking a little more respectable. Bendigo Woollen Mills are having a sale and I need to make Christmas presents, so I put in an order for some yarn which took some time (I wish yarn measurements and knitting gauges were standardised; I spent a lot of time trying to work out how much of what sort of yarn I'd need for each project once I worked out which projects I ought to be working on for the next two months or so! I bought a bigger folder a couple of months ago for all my craft stuff—tried to organise the patterns by type [accessories, tops, toys, etc.] plus I have a section in the back where I stick all the yarn labels and record what I've made with the yarn.)

I haven't gotten much further with my library but I've been adding books as I mooch from Bookmooch (and I've managed to mooch most of Lloyd Alexander's The Chronicles of Prydain except for The Foundling and Other Tales from Prydain and Taran Wanderer, so I'm getting there, Kathleen!). I'm currently in the middle of about four different books: Surviving the Breakup (which is the first book by Judith Wallerstein and Joan Kelly about their 25-year study of children of divorce), Divorce (Frank Retief—picked that up at work the other day), Inside Out (Larry Crabb—reading it off and on at work) and Boundaries (Cloud/Townsend) because my counsellor told me I should read it (and I keep wincing at their use of the Bible). Oh yes, and Bec's Master's thesis. Did you know that Asians have been in this country almost as long as Anglos but are still underrepresented? It's interesting that Howard is adamant that Australia will never see itself as being part of Asia, despite the large numbers of Asians who live here and our geographical position. Food for thought.

All right, need to go sleep for another 11 hours.

Sounds busy, but things for yourself.  I ordered stuff from Bendigo 25/10 and it still hasn’t arrived.  One downside of their having a website now, I suppose.  They used to be so quick in delivery from just a phone order.  Some 8 ply, some pure alpaca, and some of the fancier mix with unusual wool in it.

Have you tried Harmony?  It’s pleasant to knit with and has stretch from lycra.  I made shrugs for my small granddaughters last year from it in a feather and fan stitch.
Presents are on the list, socks, urchin hats etc so i hope it gets here soon.  I like the cotton but my fingers don’t so I’ve just looked at it.

Enjoy the sleep.

Thanks for the recommendation, Jan! I’ve never used Harmony but will keep it mind for the future. I also hope your yarn arrives soon! I still have stuff from my stash I can use for other Christmas presents but it would be nice if the yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills got here by the beginning of December at the very least!

I have that Frank Retief book as well…

Boundaries is useless scripturally, but still helpful otherwise I think.
