Yesterday, after going to the doctor's and finally getting my act together to send those letters from my Sunday school class to the missionaries in France, I took a ramble into town. Wandering around Wollongong isn't as fun as wandering around Sydney but to compensate, it's got a healthy amount of op-shops and second hand bookstores. I found The Hospital By the River by Catherine Hamlin for $3 at The Record King (it's a history of the Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; I started praying for them when Andrew Browning from our church at Gymea headed over there to work permanently).
I was also idly looking for black goth wear (since the other staff girls and I are going to be coming as goths/creative arts students/dressed up in weird clothes to attend the Ignite film festival at the Town Hall on Saturday. All these people have told me that I look pretty goth anyway even though I don't wear white face powder and black lipstick. I found a shop called Mousettes which had the most beautiful clothes in it and also sold cloaks for $85, fishnet stockings and gloves, but unfortunately no ankhs (I was sort of toying with the idea of coming as Death of the Endless). I bought a black top from there for $10 which has flared sleeves and ties up at the front with black ribbons which I will probably wear over the dress I bought at Paddington markets a couple of years ago which is black with glittery bits on it and has a ragged sort of lacy hem (I'm not very good at describing clothes).
I also went to Spotlight and picked up some fabric to line my bags from the bargain bin as well as a card for a wedding we're going to in late November, a zipper (to see if I can sew zippers onto my knitted bags) and a pair of 5.5 mm circular needles (I'm trying to knit that hat now. Unfortunately I got very confused and had to pull it out and start again about four times. The pattern neglects to tell you that you're actualy knitting the hat inside out instead of outside in the way you'd think would be more logical).
I finally hit Crown St. Mall where I did the rest of my shopping and ran the rest of my errands. I got a wedding present for that wedding we're going to in late November; I bought some black nail polish, clear nail polish and nail polish remover (I don't own these things because I hardly ever paint my nails), I looked for ankhs and found none (then decided my star was pretty goth-looking anyway, or perhaps I could wear that cross my cousin gave me for our wedding) and I bought a new razor for Ben (because the replacement razor heads I bought him for his old razor don't fit his old razor and I can't find a razor that fits them and the moral story really is don't every buy Schick; Gilette is much better).
Ben picked me up from St. Michael's where I dropped off some paperwork to Jacinta in the office. I tried to persuade him to come down to the mall with me to get his wedding ring resized (he has grown so much he can't wear it anymore—it's too tight—so I've been wearing it on my right hand) but he said he was too tired from playing tennis earlier that day. We went home and watched several episodes of Kath and Kim (borrowed off Sujin who loves that show) and The Whitlams on DVD (1992-2004) before I made risotto for dinner and we watched Fight Club and I cursed over my circular knitting.

Did you know that Andrew Browning is in Australia atm? When I visited St Thom’s last week, he was there, sharing about the work he did in Ethiopia.

Is Kath and Kim hilarious or what??
I didn’t know about Andrew until this morning when we were visiting Gymea and were told that Andrew and Stephanie are going there in a couple of weeks to do a seminar on the work in Ethiopia and the Fistula Hospital. I’m glad to hear that they’re in Australia!
I haven’t checked the goth pics yet but when I do, I’ll post a couple up.
