In response, I would just say, Kids will use the way you treat them as a model for their own behaviour..  If you admit mistakes, if you are fair, if you are truthfull.. they will (hopefully - have a better chance to) grow up with similar values. 

I owe much to my parents in that regard. 

Of course this is just my pet theory and may bear no relavence to the truth.
