Finished making this on the weekend. It's for the FEVA art exhibition where it will hopefully sell for a decent sum.

It's dead-easy: 40 stitches across on 15mm needles using four different types of yarn (in this case, Cheakheaton Faux Fur, Lincraft Ostrich, Lincraft Entice and Lincraft Flutter). I got two balls of each kind of yarn but I didn't get through them all—the Entice ran out first and that's when I decided to stop. You could probably do it with just 6 x 50g balls but the problem is more the length of your yarn rather than the weight.
It also stretches the other way to make a shawl:
