Stuvac

Saturday, 08 November, 2003

This week is Stuvac which is short for “study vacation”, for those of you who don't live in Australia. Stuvac is normally one week long and it precedes the examination period. It's been rather hectic, what with AFES area committee meeting on Monday night, the ECU end-of-year dinner on Tuesday night (at which I was freaking out because we were missing a cable for the data projector. After we borrowed one from Pakman, I calmed down), dinner with Chris and his friends on Thursday night (since he's going away to live in the country now that he's gotten a job out in the middle of nowhere) and dinner with Tim and Liz last night (we watched Spirited Away and they really liked it). Work has been annoyingly political which makes me glad that I can leave early on Wednesdays and leave it behind. I think I'm getting a little run-down; that virus I caught early last month has resurfaced again. I'm fighting it with antibiotics this time because I'm sick of being sick and I don't want these germs to be hanging around in the back of my throat for another month or so. So far the only thing I've had to miss is the staff girls' breakfast on Thursday morning which is sad because I love going out for breakfast. ECU staff spent Tuesday and Wednesday working through the Network course (by Bruce Bugbee, Don Cousins and Bill Hybels) so they could understand each other's gifts more and work better as a team. After doing the Spiritual Gift Assessment bit, Ben got 1. Teaching, 2. Prophecy and 3. Creative Communication/Discernment/Knowledge (tied). I did it last night and got 1. Helps, 2. Intercession and 3. Creative Communication/Giving/Teaching (tied). We also did the Personal Style Assessment and Ben got People/Unstructured whereas I got Task/Structured so that means we're complete opposites. Oh dear. Tonight I'm going to the St. Michael's 7 pm service end-of-year party and Ben is going to Fell's buck's night. I'm in the kind of mood where I'd like to just do nothing but anyway ...

We say Swotvac up here.

That spiritual gift thing sounds intriguing. I’m a bit clueless at the moment about what God wants me to do.

I hope you feel better soon.

Ditto on the swotvac in Melbourne.  I don’t know what it stands for…can’t remember.

Aaah the wonders of work politics.  I’m sooo looking forward to that again.  Hope it was a good break at least…and remember Christmas isn’t far away.

swot = study (ie. swotting the night before the exam)

vac = vacation

Ergo.

Swotvac = study vacation
