So I overdid it this week. Too many things. They were:
Update: Photobooth photo now included!
- Chaplaincy dinner on Monday night at college: Nice catching up with people and it was good it wrapped early because I had CASE work to do.
- Breakfast with friends from college—which I was hoping to have at the Brekky place across from church. Bron told me it was good, if you don't mind the slow service. Unfortunately it was shut, so we walked down the road to Petersham and found the only place open that served breakfast at that time of day, and had bacon and egg rolls and milkshakes. Then I went to work and Ben enjoyed his one-day holiday, and we had Bible study in the evening where I finally managed to snap a photo of Rosey in the second hat I made her (this one was a Coronet—my first attempt at cables):

- Dinner and a movie with Dave. We thought we'd invite him over this time since we've tended to eat out whenever we've done dinner and a movie with him before. I made poached ginger chicken which turned out like this:
(Unfortunately I stuffed up a bit and forgot to put the oyster sauce on before I did everything else. You can't tell from the photo though. And also unfortunately Dave ended up being quite late so everything had to be reheated, and we had to gobble our food and run for it in order to make it in time to see The Lives of Others which is an excellent movie [I particularly liked the ending]. Ben and I got in for free courtesy of a double pass from Kinokuniya which makes it my second free movie for the year. Fortunately the movie finished before midnight so Dave's car was not trapped under Norton Plaza.)
(Thursday was my one night at home this week and I spent it blocking a Branching Out scarf for Liwen—four months overdue because it was intended for her birthday—made with lilac 100% cotton from Bendigo Woollen Mills. This was the first time I'd ever blocked anything and I think I did okay.)

- Friday night was PEC Women's Fellowship but I had already organised to go to see Becoming Jane again with my school friends. I was running late from counselling—I thought if I left five minutes early I could beat the traffic—but it ended up taking close to an hour and I had to message Ben to bring down my coat so I could get to the station on time instead of rushing upstairs to get it. I treated myself to a milk tea from Easy Way and some popcorn (the rule is I can only have popcorn at the movies if other people are going to eat it, but unfortunately the majority of girls don't eat popcorn. Fortunately my friends were ones that did). Afterwards one of them had to skidaddle but the rest of us went to Fujiya for dinner. We managed to get a booth straight away because there were only three of us—it was a little corner booth overlooking the intersection near World Square. I was adventurous and tried the salmon hot pot and it was delicious. Unfortunately I didn't get home until about 11 pm.
- Saturday was Word by Word and I was racing around like a mad thing in the morning, trying to get everything ready. I was more or less organised, though I was trying to quickly write a script for the four-page comic that Fish and I have been working on so I could workshop it. Ben and I got to the office at 9 and started setting up, and then everyone else rolled in. I tried to make coffees but then Dave pointed out that I'd over-frothed the milk (who knew milk could be over-frothed???) and I figured I should just leave it to the experts. There was 11 of us and it was a great group. Ben gave a devotion on Isaiah 53, we did a writing exercise based on Dave Eggers's short short stories, Duncan talked to us about writing letters to politicians, we got some writing done and then workshopped stuff in the afternoon (it was me and Jo). It all went quite well, really. And we came home in the afternoon and relaxed by watching Veronica Mars and the rest of the week's TV.
- But then we caught the train into the city with Fish (who also would have come to writing group had he not been fraternising with former Queenslanders) to meet other PEC people for dinner at this tucked away Korean restaurant called Sydney Madang. There were 12 of us plus two babies. Steve ordered for us because he knew Korean (isn't it nice when someone else makes the decisions for you), and we had this full-on Korean BBQ:
The food was delicious (though there is a certain strangeness about eating out at a place where you have to cook your own food). Afterwards there was much debate about what to do next. Some suggested Passionflower, some suggested Karaoke. Karaoke was too expensive and Passionflower too full of people to accommodate all 14 of us. But we did go upstairs to the crazy Asian photobooths and gumball machines to explore. Once again I was struck by all the cute little toys:
Though why anyone would spend $4 each on tiny models of kitchen appliances is beyond me:
But who could resist these?
We also tried to find a photo booth that would accommodate us all to take a group photo. We managed to find one (along with the $17 we needed to operate it) but over the course of the eight shots we took, the babies got a bit restless. The results were quite amusing though, and I will put them up once I get access to a scanner. (I do have permission from all parties involved!)
This piece of photobooth signage was amusing:
As was this:
We ended up going to Y2K in Chinatown for dessert (where I had a hot black sesame pearl tea) and then home which we finally reached at around midnight.
- Church—which included band practice (and, just quietly, me and Ben rocked on “See Him Coming”!) and me doing a book review of Knowing God by J.I. Packer.
Tonight Sarah told me I was “way too organised” because I know what I'm doing a month in advance. Unfortunately being way too organised hasn't kept me from breaking the Five Things rule!!!

The majority of girls don’t eat popcorn? I never noticed… must start being more observant! I usually do have popcorn at the movies, unless we’re in a cinema where the popcorn isn’t nice. (We have two major cineplex chains here and usually go to either one. One has excellent popcorn, the other doesn’t.)
kel and I had popcorn for dinner on saturday night. not the wisest nutritional choice, but quite filling.
(Long time lurker - I think we have mutual friends…)
What yarn did you use to knit Coronet out of? (Of all the great things I could comment about, this is what drives me to it…)
popcorn is salty. and then u have to drink more.
The breakfast cafe up the road is run by a Seventh Day Adventist lady, who allegedly can be crabby. But because she goes to church on Saturday, everyone else has to go elsewhere for brekkie.
Maybe I’m hanging out with the wrong set of girls. I should make it a rule to only make friends with popcorn-eaters!
Anna: Thanks for stopping by! The hat was knitted out of Lincraft Tightrope. It’s 72% acrylic and 28% polyamide with 39m per ball.
Fish, that explains Saturday (which is odd because they’d get the most business on Saturday) but this was a Tuesday!!!
