Sorry for the long absence. It wasn't my fault—someone vandalised our server on Christmas Day and, as a result, we've lost all our index files. For the parts of our site driven by Movable Type, this wasn't a problem because the content management system could just regenerate the pages, but for sections like Ben's page, where he was building his own content management system with PHP from scratch but editing it all on the server, because he has no backup, he's lost everything.
I've also been having battles with the electricity company who has decided to charge us $260 for the past two months' worth of electricity. I thought that was absolutely ridiculous and rang them up to tell them so—especially since the total was based on an estimated meter reading, not on an actual meter reading. I discovered that they haven't been taking actual meter readings because their operative who does them hasn't been able to access the property. Duh, because the gate at the bottom is locked! You have to come around the other side. I also found out that Energy Australia are a little slow on the uptake and, despite the fact that this problem has been highlighted several times before in April 2005 and October 2004, they still haven't gotten it right.
Anyway, since Ben and I woke up rather late today and were feeling a little down, we decided to go out to the city—mainly to make an expedition to the Cold Rock Ice Creamery at Haymarket (which Guan told us about) but, on the way, we had a very late 4 pm lunch in a Noodle House, we found a Revolution CD on Pitt St which had an excellent range (including Katie Melua's Call off the Search), we located Red Eye Records (which was a little dear for a 2nd hand CD store but, nevertheless, they had the soundtrack to the Keira Knightley/Matthew MacFadyen version of Pride and Prejudice and Officium which I have wanted simply forever), I stocked up on yarn at Lincraft (the awesome thing about knitting in summer is that yarn is cheaper. Unfortunately it also means they don't always have the colours you want) and finally we made it to Cold Rock and enjoyed coconut and mango ice cream mixed with Bounty chocolate bars.
